COVID-19 Important Update

06 Apr | 2020

Written by: VisionWest Home HealthCare

VisionWest Home HealthCare services is an essential service. We will remain in operation throughout the lockdown period. We will endeavour to continue support for you as safely as we can as we face COVID-19 together.

Service Reductions
We have been asked by the Ministry of Health to reduce our services to essential services only. An Essential Service is where if you don’t receive this service your health and safety will be impacted. For the most part this means that we have reduced the amount of Household Management (house cleaning) appointments we are delivering.
There may also be changes to how medication oversight is handled but this will be discussed with you.
For those of you who will not be receiving visits right now – we are planning to contact you by phone to say hello, see how you are doing and answer any questions you may have.

Personal Protective Equipment
Several clients have been worried about the use of Personal Protective Equipment (for example face masks) by our support workers. We are following Ministry of Health advice on what PPE a support worker should use when visiting you. This advice is that there are only a small number of situations that a community health worker is required to use a full set of gown or apron, face mask, eye wear and gloves. This includes when you, or someone in your house, is a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case.
We have been checking with our support workers about who they have been in contact with to ensure they do not pass anything on to you. However, so everybody feels safer, we are getting new supplies of PPE from the government in the coming days and we plan to equip all support workers with more PPE.

Vigilance against infection
Please contact us if you or someone in your house has:
• Returned from overseas in the last 14 days
• Feel sick or have COVID-19 symptoms
• Been in contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19

Client Transport
During the COVID-19 lockdown our support workers are NOT permitted to transport clients in their cars. This requirement is for the safety of both clients and support workers.
